Eagles 26 - Seattle 7 - Monday, November 03, 2008
218 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Team - Eagles, Joe DeCamara With the 26 - 7 win over the Seahawks behind us, I'll dispense of getting nitty-gritty into the game and look at the big picture that really matters for the season ....... Things looked pretty bleak for the Eagles at 2 - 3. Not only were the Birds in last place, but at that time it seemed like even 11 wins may not have gotten the Eagles into the playoffs! That meant if the Eagles got their act together a 9 - 2 run might not have been good enough!! I believe that is why Donovan McNabb sensed the urgency that he did in calling that Players Only Meeting. The Eagles deserve credit for turning things around. Sure the schedule has been favorable lately (and yes I am including a win over a then 4 - 2 Falcons team as part of that "favorable" schedule). But if you think about it with how rough this division is and to an extent with how rough the conference is the Eagles deserved a few breaks. So at 5 - 3 the Eagles clearly control their own destiny. Now it's time to win a division game .... a big game .... and wouldn't you know it the G-Men are next up. It's time for Donovan McNabb and the Eagles to step up to a higher level of performance. Even over the past few weeks while winning three in a row it hasn't felt like the Eagles are anything close to an elite team. But if there is one thing that recent years in the NFL shows us it's that teams that really win in the NFL do so because of how they close a season, not so much how they started one. The '01 Patriots, the '05 Steelers and the '07 Giants are all prime examples. So as the Eagles now bridge their way to the second half of their '08 campaign it's important to realize that they are, believe it or not, still in the process of forming who they are as a team. And in forming the identity of this squad Sunday at The Linc against the Giants will go a long, long way to helping determine just what this group is. Like I said ... it's in their hands. Now that the Eagles have proved they can take care of business against the lesser teams it's time for Donovan McNabb and the Eagles to prove their worth against a good one. |
