Everything going on with the Eagles right now is starting to remind me of Rich Kotite in '94 and Ray Rhodes in '98.  We've seen the wheels come off the Eagles franchise before.  We know what it looks like, and this sure as heck resembles what we've seen before.

At this very moment Andy Reid may be the most maddening person we have encountered in Philadelphia sports over the past 20 years.  I can not remember a situation where an individual in Philly sports so consistently shoots himself in the foot.  It is astonishing that Andy Reid refuses to run the ball.  More than anything else his stubborn refusal to run the football weighs this team down like I've never seen a team weighed down before.

It's understandable when a team loses as a result of a lack of talent.  I'm not saying it's acceptable because obviously it means the general manager hasn't done his job.  But with the Eagles, while there are some personnel issues, the biggest reason the Eagles are struggling is not because of talent but because it seems like the coach has lost his mind.  I mean it literally seems like he has lost his mind.  But, the reality is, as we know, that Andy Reid hasn't lost his mind.  He is coaching exactly as he wants to.  That's the scariest part of all.  He is executing his game-plan for how offense should be played in the NFL.

I still will hold out and say I would like to see Andy Reid be the Eagles coach.  I know I am in the vast minority with that statement, but I have seen too much past success to simply write Andy Reid off.  As I have said before in this column, it is time for Jeffrey Lurie to intervene.  It's strange to advocate for that because I hate when ownership gets too involved.  But this is a unique situation.  Jeffrey Lurie may be able to snap Andy Reid back into it as a Head Coach.  Part of the process should absolutely be stripping Andy Reid of his play calling duties.  It's not working, so let someone else do it.  If Reid is resistant to the type of change .... than adios Big Red!  But my hope remains for the Eagles to keep Andy Reid, alter the situation and win with a coach who has had a lot of success before.

Joe DeCamara hosts the 950 ESPN Eagles Pre-Game Show in addition to being the Assistant Program Director, Sports Update Anchor, an internet columnist and the 76ers Beat Reporter for the radio station.  You can read Joe’s blog after every Eagles game and at other points throughout the week.
